Give Yourself Options

You need a contingency plan. The crazies could come for you at any minute. A random Act of Government could make what you do today illegal tomorrow. Your company could eliminate your entire department, downsize, or go under. A disruptive, heroic innovator could make an amazing breakthrough rendering your current job obsolete.

In environments like this, you need to be able to adapt. Have something you can fall back on that allows you to adapt and provide value in an environment of constant disruptive change.

Learn to Code

You can learn to code well without a fancy degree or an expensive boot camp. If you’re the type of person who is willing to take charge of your own development and learn a skill, Stateless Code is here for you.

The need and demand for quality software developers has continued to rise over time with no change in sight. People have long digital wish lists, and there aren’t enough developers to satisfy them. Code along with Stateless Code and start building your portfolio so that you can demonstrate that you are ready and able to deliver value when the time comes.

Videos in a Single Take Style With Mistakes Left In

Legend has it that Mozart was able compose music in a single draft with no need for revision. If you’re like Mozart, you can stop reading and go write your magnum opus.

It is natural, common, and expected to make mistakes while coding. Whether it’s from a failing test, a syntax error, or a runtime error, you are going to see a lot of red when you code, and you need to know what to do when that happens.

Stateless Code videos are done (as much as possible) in a “one take” style. If Mike makes a mistake, you get to watch him muddle through troubleshooting it. This is done because learning the process and methods of getting yourself “unstuck” when you are stuck are just as valuable (if not more so) than the coding itself.

The videos and posts on this site take you end-to-end through the process

A Virgil for Your Dante

Mike Duchemin learned to code in the wild and created Stateless Code to be the resource he wishes he had when he was starting out. He has navigated through the wilderness and can help guide you through your journey.

Mike majored in music, which qualified him to drive people to the airport, deliver packages, and deliver flowers. He got a job through nepotism and spent years getting yelled at by people with escalated customer service issues. That turned into analysis of those issues to stop them from occurring, using Microsoft Excel and Access, which eventually turned into automation with macros and Visual Basic for Applications. He then learned Ruby on Rails and used that to build web applications, later branching out into JavaScript, Apex, and Salesforce development. You can code along end-to-end through various projects, including learning new things.

I came here to write code and drink milk. And I’ve just finished my milk.
